Actress Srha Asghar faces sexual assault, lodges an FIR with Karachi police

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Actor Srha Asghar has taken legal action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against a man identified as Asim. She accused him of attempting to sexually assault her.

Police revealed that the incident occurred on August 1st when the actress went to the market.

Srha’s husband, Umar Murtaza, lodged a complaint leading to the registration of the FIR at Shah Faisal Police Station.

Srha told the police that a person started tailing her and engaging in catcalling while she was returning from the market.

She further said the accused followed her to her residence and made an attempt to touch her, resulting in the tearing of her clothing.

Srha pressed the doorbell and contacted her husband from the house. It led into a confrontation between her husband and the assailant.

Subsequently, Srha’s husband and neighbors nabbed the accused and took him to the police station.

 Ghazi University in Dera Ghazi Khan has reported an alleged incident of sexual assault. The case came to public attention when journalist from Battagram, posted a video of the purported victim on X social media platform.

In the video, the victim Sana, a student of BS Physics, asserted, “If the vice chancellor does not take action, I will not tolerate this any longer and will set myself on fire within the university. The vice chancellor will bear the responsibility for this.”

ana accused two staff members of harassment, stating that they were blackmailing both her and her younger sister.

She alleged that these teachers had warned her against disclosing anything to other faculty members or department heads.

The police reached out to the female student following the incident. The Gadai Police Station registered a complaint against two teachers from the Physics Department. DPO Ahsan Afzal said that the incident occurred in May.

Meanwhile, the university spokesperson claimed that the viral video on social media pertained to an older matter. The spokesperson said the university has suspended both accused.
