The 78th Emmy Awards delivered a night of major victories, record-setting moments and standout performances from television’s biggest stars.
Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14. The event aired live on NBC and Peacock.
‘Widow’s Bay’ Dominates Comedy Categories
Widow’s Bay emerged as one of the biggest winners of the evening after taking home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Matthew Rhys also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay. Stephen Root won Outstanding Supporting Actor, while Kate O’Flynn took home Outstanding Supporting Actress.
The show also won awards for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing.
Jean Smart continued her impressive Emmy run by winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks.
‘The Pitt’ Wins Top Drama Award
The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, securing one of the night’s biggest honors.
Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in the series.
Rhea Seehorn won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus.
Tom Pelphrey was named Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Task, while Allison Janney won Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Diplomat.
Pluribus also won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Slow Horses received the directing award for Saul Metzstein.
Matthew Rhys Makes Emmy History
Matthew Rhys was among the night’s most notable winners. He won two major acting awards for Widow’s Bay and The Beast in Me.
DTF St. Louis won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
Meanwhile, The Traitors won Outstanding Reality Competition Program.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took home Outstanding Variety Series.
Several other Emmy categories had already been decided during the Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies held on September 5 and 6.
