Adjustable Design Supports Better Sleep
Emirates has introduced a new adjustable headrest for Economy Class passengers.
The design aims to reduce the need for traditional neck pillows during long-haul flights.
Known as the U-Dream headrest, it supports the head and neck while passengers sleep.
The padded leather headrest includes flexible side wings. These wings fold inward to prevent the head from falling forward or leaning sideways.
Passengers can move the headrest vertically. They can also adjust its tilt according to their height and preferred sleeping position.
Fleet-Wide Installation Planned
The new headrest is already installed on three Emirates Airbus A350 aircraft.
Emirates plans to fit the system across its entire A350 fleet by the end of 2026.
The airline will also install the headrest on most Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
Retrofitted A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft will begin receiving the headrest from 2027.
All 270 Boeing 777X aircraft ordered by Emirates will arrive with the system already installed.
However, passengers may not find the headrest on every flight immediately. Availability will depend on the aircraft operating each route.
Emirates Promises Greater Passenger Comfort
Emirates President Sir Tim Clark said the headrest could change the sleeping experience for passengers.
He said the design provides full neck support and may remove the need for neck pillows.
Emirates said the headrest has been independently tested. It meets European Union Aviation Safety Agency standards.
Cabin crew have also received training to help passengers adjust the headrest.
The leather surface can be wiped and cleaned after each flight. This allows the airline to maintain hygiene standards during regular operations.
