An Abbottabad woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a dispute over dowry, according to police. The incident involved 28-year-old Sama Ruqaya, whose husband Saqib allegedly killed her before fleeing the crime scene.
Police said the woman suffered a fatal throat injury caused by a sharp instrument. Following the incident, the victim’s father submitted an application requesting legal action against the accused.
Family Alleges Years of Dowry-Related Abuse
According to the victim’s father, his daughter married Saqib eight years ago and faced alleged abuse afterward. He stated in his application that the accused repeatedly subjected his daughter to torture during their marriage.
The father further alleged that his daughter regularly complained about her husband’s treatment over a dowry dispute.
According to his account, the dispute continued throughout the marriage and remained a source of alleged mistreatment. The allegations have now become part of the murder investigation as police pursue the accused.
Police Register Murder Case
Police have registered a case against Saqib under Section 302 following the complaint submitted by the victim’s father.
The section relates to punishment for murder under Pakistan’s law, while investigators have begun efforts to arrest the accused.
According to police, Saqib escaped from the crime scene after allegedly killing his wife. Police have started conducting raids at different locations as they continue their search for the suspect.
Meanwhile, investigators are proceeding with the case based on the complaint and evidence gathered after the incident.
Body Shifted for Post-Mortem
Authorities shifted Sama Ruqaya’s body to Ayub Medical Complex for a post-mortem examination.
The examination will form part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Police are continuing their efforts to locate and arrest Saqib following registration of the murder case.
The investigation remains focused on the allegations surrounding the dowry dispute and the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
