Security Forces Conduct Intelligence-Based Action in Bannu
Security forces carried out a joint intelligence-based operation in the Barakzai Akhundkhel area of Bannu district on Saturday, resulting in the killing of eight militants during an exchange of fire, according to official reports.
Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel launched the operation after receiving intelligence regarding the reported presence of militants in the area.
Authorities said security teams used advanced technology and drone surveillance support during the operation to monitor movements and strengthen coordination.
According to officials, militants opened fire after security personnel approached the location, triggering an intense gunbattle between both sides.
Consequently, security forces responded and neutralised eight militants during the exchange.
However, the operation also resulted in casualties among security personnel. Officials confirmed that one police officer lost his life during the encounter while another sustained injuries.
Additionally, authorities recovered and later defused a 10-kilogram locally manufactured remote-controlled explosive device discovered at a suspected hideout.
Search Operations Continue Following Clearance Efforts
Bannu City Police Officer stated that authorities immediately cordoned off the surrounding area after the operation and launched a search effort to eliminate any remaining threats.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised police and CTD personnel and described the operation as successful.
He stated that authorities would continue operations against militant groups and maintain efforts aimed at protecting citizens and public security across the province.
Additionally, officials announced rewards for personnel involved in the operation in recognition of their performance.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the police and CTD teams and paid tribute to the officer who lost his life during the operation.
Medical officials in Bannu confirmed that injured personnel and the deceased officer were transported to the district hospital.
