ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran will negotiate a mutual cooperation in banking sector. This development emerged during the meeting of Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam with Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.
Next week, the heads of the central banks of Pakistan and Iran are holding crucial meetings in Pakistan to work out a mechanism to initiate cooperation in banking sector.

At present, the banking sector in Iran is facing the US-led economic sanctions. Hence, the banks operating in Iran are not connected to the international banking and payment systems.
In their bilateral meetings, the central banks’ chiefs of Pakistan and Iran will discuss various options to initiate banking sector cooperation.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, Iranian Ambassador and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar discussed enhancing trade relations.
Both decided to open three more border markets between the two countries. Border markets can promote bilateral trade between the two countries without restrictions.
Pakistan and Iran launch border markets
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi inaugurated the Mand-Pishin border market in the border area.
Both leaders also inaugurated a 100-MW electricity project that will supply power to Gwadar and in border areas close to the Iranian border in Pishin.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Pakistan and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also held a crucial meeting on Thursday at the Pak-Iran border to expand the two countries’ bilateral ties.
PM Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Balochistan leaders ahead of the opening of the Pak-Iran border market. PM Shehbaz and the Iranian President inaugurated a border market and a 100MW power project.
Iranian President Raisi hosted a luncheon in honor of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior government officials during the inauguration of the border trade and a new project.
The two countries’ top leaders are holding a bilateral meeting after a long time. Their meeting becomes more important in the wake of the Saudi-Iran rapprochement facilitated by China two months ago.
