PM Shehbaz Orders Reduction in Electricity Prices for Consumers

PM Shehbaz

On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed a further reduction in electricity prices for the public, emphasizing the need to improve the energy sector in Pakistan.

In a review meeting focused on power generation and transmission projects, the Prime Minister also stressed the importance of accelerating the development of future power generation initiatives.

One of his key orders was the immediate closure of outdated power plants that produce limited electricity while consuming excessive fuel.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz underlined that future projects should prioritize low-cost power generation, especially by tapping into local resources.

He also highlighted the progress of ongoing hydropower projects, which are seen as a sustainable and cost-effective way to provide electricity to consumers.

The Prime Minister noted the global trend toward using environmentally friendly and affordable energy sources, specifically pointing out the growing reliance on solar energy worldwide. He stated, “Hydropower will provide consumers with both environmentally friendly and affordable electricity.”

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan is fortunate to have significant potential for solar energy and that the country’s current power capacity should be shifted towards solar power.

This transition could potentially reduce reliance on costly, traditional sources of energy and help mitigate the rising energy costs for the public.

In a separate meeting held a few days earlier, PM Shehbaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif discussed national security and political affairs.

Both leaders agreed to take strict action against individuals who pose threats to national unity and impede the country’s progress. They also deliberated on the events of November 26 and considered a potential call for civil disobedience in response to the prevailing challenges.

During the meeting, the leaders also discussed the government’s approach to involving political allies in major decisions. They emphasized the importance of taking their allies into confidence on national matters.

Nawaz Sharif congratulated the Prime Minister for the improvements in the country’s economic situation, while PM Shehbaz briefed him on the steps taken to attract foreign investment.

The Prime Minister also provided an update on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, discussing the potential investments secured from abroad.

The meeting concluded with both leaders paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in operations against militants, and offering prayers at the graves of their parents in Jati Umra.
