Dr. Shamshad Akhtar is no more chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization: Fawad gets this key portfolio

Cabinet Committee

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has relieved Shamshad Akhtar of yet another significant role in a cabinet committee. Shamshad Akhtar has now been removed from the position of the Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCoP).

The chairmanship of this committee has been assigned to Federal Minister for Privatization, Fawad Hassan Fawad.

Notably, on September 14, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar had already removed Shamshad Akhtar as Minister for Privatization. Additionally, the caretaker government has taken substantial measures concerning the authority to negotiate agreements with foreign countries.

Moreover, Finance Minister has also been replaced as the head of the Cabinet Committee on Inter-Governmental Commercial Transactions. Fawad Hasan Fawad subsequently assumed the role of Federal Minister for Privatization.

The caretaker prime minister has removed Dr. Shamshad Akhtar as Privatization Minister following her remarks that at times she wonders why she accepted the role. However, she reportedly made these comments in a light-hearted manner.

Furthermore, she informed the committee that the state of the economy was even more challenging than she had initially anticipated and that the caretaker government would soon provide a roadmap to address the situation.

In a subsequent clarification statement, Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar explained that her comments had been ‘misinterpreted.’

In a video message, she clarified that she had meant to convey that many people had questioned her decision to assume the role of Finance Minister during such challenging times.

She added that serving Pakistan during this period was an honor. This clarification was released through a video by Information Minister Murtaza Solangi on X, the former Twitter platform.
