Military Ties

Islamabad – April 11, 2025: Pakistan and Belarus have entered into a series of wide-ranging cooperation agreements during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s two-day official visit to the Republic of Belarus, held from April 10 to 11 at the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The visit marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, as both countries signed multiple memorandums of understanding and agreements across various sectors, including military, economic, and institutional collaboration.

One of the key highlights of the visit was the establishment of a roadmap for military-technical cooperation for the years 2025 to 2027. The roadmap was finalized between Belarus’s State Authority for Military Industry and Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production, reflecting the two nations’ shared interest in strengthening defense collaboration.

In addition to military cooperation, an agreement on readmission and a cooperation pact between the interior ministries of both countries were signed, paving the way for enhanced coordination on internal security matters.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly received upon arrival by Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and senior officials from the Pakistan Embassy in Belarus.

During the high-level meetings, President Lukashenko emphasized Belarus’s commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan and noted the potential for exploring new dimensions in bilateral cooperation.

Economic and trade partnerships were also given a major boost. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Belarusian Financial Cooperation Fund for Businesses and Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA).

Another agreement was concluded between the Belarus Chamber of Industry and Trade and Pakistan’s Trade Development Authority, signaling efforts to increase bilateral trade and investment.

Further agreements included a pact between Pakistan Post and Belarus Post for the exchange of postal items, and an MoU between Pakistan’s Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and JS Global Capital Limited, aiming to foster public-private sector collaboration.

The Belarusian president hosted a dinner in honor of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif at his private farmhouse. The event was also attended by Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

President Lukashenko expressed special warmth and appreciation for both Shehbaz and Nawaz Sharif, reflecting the close diplomatic rapport.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and the Pakistani delegation, stating that the visit had opened new avenues for comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
