Karachi police have arrested two suspects accused of transporting hashish inside specially designed slippers, exposing an unusual method allegedly used to move narcotics. According to Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, officers detained the men after they travelled from Hub Chowki to Gadap with drugs concealed inside their footwear.
Police identified the suspects as Saqib and Kamran. Investigators believe the case could lead to a wider drug-supply network, as officers examine their alleged links and search for other people involved.
How the Suspects Allegedly Concealed Hashish in Slippers
According to SSP Pirzada, each suspect was carrying approximately one kilogram of hashish. The narcotics were hidden inside layered soles containing specially constructed compartments.
Police said the suspects had travelled from Hub Chowki to Gadap while carrying the concealed drugs. However, authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding their arrest.
Investigators have also uncovered the alleged involvement of a cobbler who reportedly manufactured the modified slippers. Police suspect the footwear was specifically designed to conceal and transport narcotics without attracting immediate attention.
Moreover, SSP Pirzada said the suspected traffickers had developed coded language to communicate with one another and coordinate their supplies. Investigators are examining these alleged communications as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Police Investigate Possible Links to Wider Drug Network
Following the arrests, police are working to identify potential accomplices and establish whether the suspects belong to a larger drug-trafficking network. Officers are also checking their previous criminal records, according to the SSP.
The investigation will seek to clarify the roles of the arrested men and the alleged cobbler. Meanwhile, authorities are pursuing possible links between the suspects and other individuals involved in the supply chain.
Police have not yet disclosed whether further arrests have taken place. The suspects’ alleged involvement and the wider network’s structure remain subjects of investigation.
ANF Seizes Drugs Worth More Than Rs560 Million in Balochistan
In a separate operation, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized 3,825 kilograms of drugs from a suspected hideout in Balochistan’s Kech district.
According to an ANF spokesperson, personnel conducted the operation in the Josak area after receiving intelligence-based information. The seizure included 2,454 kilograms of hashish, 1,363 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, and eight kilograms of heroin.
Authorities estimated the seized narcotics’ value at more than Rs560 million. The drugs were reportedly stored temporarily at a compound before their planned smuggling abroad through a sea route.
The ANF spokesperson said the narcotics had allegedly entered Pakistan from Afghanistan. The suspected network was reportedly waiting for a signal before transporting the shipment overseas.
ANF Steps Up Efforts to Trace Suspected Traffickers
Following the seizure, the ANF intensified efforts to identify and apprehend suspected members of the trafficking network and their facilitators. Investigators are working to establish the connections behind the shipment and determine who organised its movement.
Although the Karachi arrests and the Balochistan seizure involved separate operations, both cases highlight ongoing law-enforcement efforts against suspected narcotics trafficking. Authorities continue investigating the individuals and networks allegedly responsible for moving drugs within Pakistan and towards overseas destinations.
