PESHAWAR: Local residents in a remote area of Khyber District near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border reported discovering the wreckage of an unidentified drone, raising questions about its origin and mission.
According to local sources, the debris was found in the Bar Qamber Khel area after the aircraft apparently crashed overnight. Preliminary observations suggest the drone may have been shot down or brought down through electronic warfare measures, although no official confirmation has been issued by Pakistani authorities.
The wreckage was located far from populated settlements, and no casualties or property damage were reported. Security officials have yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident, while investigations into the drone’s identity and purpose are expected to continue.
Conflicting Claims Emerge Over Possible Cross-Border Activity
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding the incident intensified after Al-Mirsad, a media outlet linked to Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI), claimed that Taliban forces had targeted hideouts belonging to the Daesh-affiliated Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in the border region.
However, local residents and sources on the ground said there was no immediate evidence of any military operation or airstrike in the area where the wreckage was discovered. As a result, the circumstances surrounding the drone’s presence remain unclear.
Some observers suspect the aircraft may have originated from across the border in Afghanistan, though authorities have not verified those claims. The discovery comes amid continued security concerns in border regions, where militant activity and cross-border movements have remained a challenge for both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Officials are expected to examine the debris to determine the drone’s origin, operational purpose, and the factors that led to its crash. Until then, the incident remains shrouded in uncertainty as authorities gather further evidence.
