Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said DNA and polygraph test results indicate the alleged involvement of a domestic worker in the murder and sexual assault of digital designer Hina Javed. However, she stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and authorities have yet to reach a final conclusion.
Maryam made the statement on Saturday while responding to a social media post highlighting the high-profile case. She said she was closely monitoring developments and assured the public that investigators were examining the available evidence.
Forensic Tests Guide Investigation Into Hina Javed’s Murder
Hina Javed, 45, was found dead at her residence in Rawalpindi’s Lal Kurti area on August 20. Police subsequently arrested her husband, Faisal Asghar Imam, and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad in connection with the case.
Investigators conducted DNA and polygraph examinations of both suspects at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. The tests formed part of efforts to establish their possible roles in the crime, while investigators continued reviewing other evidence.
Furthermore, the Punjab government established a three-member high-powered committee on September 30 to review the investigation following the receipt of forensic reports. The committee, headed by Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha, began reassessing the evidence and examining potential shortcomings in the initial police inquiry.
Family Demands Transparent and Independent Inquiry
Meanwhile, Hina’s family has repeatedly expressed concerns about the investigation and called for a judicial commission to ensure transparency. Relatives have questioned aspects of the police inquiry and demanded that authorities examine every possible angle before reaching conclusions.
An autopsy report reportedly revealed extensive injuries on Hina’s body, including a broken neck and a deep wound to the back of her head. These findings have intensified calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Additionally, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior has summoned senior Punjab police officials to brief members on the case on October 29. The meeting is expected to address investigative progress and concerns raised by the victim’s family.
Authorities continue to examine forensic findings and other evidence. The allegations against both suspects remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial determination.
