Democrats have secured control of both chambers of the US Congress in a sweeping victory in the 2026 midterm elections, dealing a major political setback to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Interestingly, Democrats captured the US House of Representatives with a wide margin. For example, Democrats won 228 seats while Republicans could win only 139 seats.
In other words, Republicans faced a humiliation in the US midterm elections because of foolish war decisions of Donald Trump and his close aides like Hegseth, etc.
The results give Democrats control of the House of Representatives and Senate, allowing them to challenge Trump’s legislative agenda during the final two years of his presidency.
Voters expressed dissatisfaction with rising living costs, tariffs and the ongoing war with Iran, which has contributed to higher fuel prices across the United States.
Democrats also made significant breakthroughs in traditionally Republican strongholds, including Kansas, Iowa, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio.
In Kansas, Methodist minister Adam Hamilton defeated Republican incumbent Roger Marshall, becoming the state’s first Democratic senator since 1932. Meanwhile, Democrats secured their first Senate victory in Iowa since 2008.
Texas also witnessed major political changes as Democrat James Talarico defeated a Trump-backed Republican candidate in the Senate contest. Democrat Gina Hinojosa additionally defeated Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
Democrats captured several Republican-held House districts across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, Arizona and North Carolina.
Following the victories, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries pledged to address rising housing and grocery costs, reverse Medicaid cuts and investigate alleged government corruption.
The new congressional balance will give Democrats greater authority to scrutinise Trump’s policies, block legislation and challenge senior government nominations.
Although Republicans retained important positions in Florida, the overall results marked a significant shift in American political power.
