An Islamabad anti-terrorism court has barred authorities from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser in the Sangjani protest case.
On Friday, October 23, 2026, ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain approved Qaiser’s application for interim bail until November 7. The court also issued a notice to the prosecution, seeking its response.
Court Grants Interim Bail to Asad Qaiser
The decision provides temporary legal relief to the senior PTI leader in the case related to the Sangjani protest.
Following the ruling, the court’s order restricts authorities from arresting Qaiser in connection with the matter during the period covered by his interim bail.
The judge also directed the prosecution to submit its response as the legal proceedings continue.
Islamabad Court Cancels Arrest Warrants
Separately, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court cancelled arrest warrants previously issued against Qaiser.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Azhar Nadeem passed the order after the PTI leader appeared before the court alongside his lawyer, Ayesha Khalid.
The court had issued the warrants earlier after Qaiser failed to attend a hearing. His subsequent appearance paved the way for their cancellation.
Legal Proceedings Continue
The latest court decisions offer temporary relief to Qaiser as he faces legal proceedings linked to the protest case.
However, the interim bail remains time-limited, with November 7 set as the current deadline. The prosecution’s response and subsequent hearings will determine the next steps in the case.
The developments come amid continuing legal challenges involving PTI leaders across Pakistan. Qaiser, a former speaker of the National Assembly, remains a senior figure in the party.
The court’s orders address his immediate risk of arrest in the relevant proceedings, while the underlying case continues through the judicial process.
