Polling for the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general election will take place on July 27 across 13 constituencies in Mirpur Division. Authorities have completed all necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.
Polling stations will open at 8:00am and remain operational until 5:00pm without any break. Voters will elect members of the AJK Legislative Assembly from constituencies located in the districts of Mirpur, Bhimber, and Kotli.
According to the AJK Election Commission, officials have finalized election arrangements and distributed all required polling materials to designated polling stations.
Security Tightened for Peaceful Voting
The Election Commission said comprehensive security measures are in place to maintain law and order throughout polling day. Police and other law enforcement agencies escorted ballot papers and election materials to polling stations to ensure their safe and timely delivery.
Moreover, authorities have deployed additional security personnel across sensitive areas to provide a secure environment for voters and election staff.
Officials expressed confidence that the arrangements would help voters cast their ballots without disruption.
More Than 1.4 Million Voters Eligible
The Election Commission said 1,401,439 registered voters are eligible to participate in the first phase of the election. The electorate includes 725,118 men and 675,628 women.
Authorities have established 2,454 polling stations across Mirpur Division. These include 597 polling stations in Mirpur, 608 in Bhimber, and 1,107 in Kotli.
Mirpur district will elect representatives from four constituencies, while Bhimber has three constituencies and Kotli has six.
Nearly 300 Candidates Contest 13 Seats
A total of 296 candidates are contesting the 13 seats. They represent the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), other political parties, and independent groups.
Election officials expect particularly close contests in LA-3 Mirpur, LA-6 Bhimber, and LA-10 Kotli, where candidates from the PPP, PML-N, and IPP are competing for victory.
The Election Commission has urged citizens to vote responsibly and cooperate with authorities throughout polling day. Furthermore, officials encouraged voters to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere and support the democratic process across Mirpur Division.
