
Anthropicโs popular Claude AI service suddenly went dark on Wednesday morning. It left thousands of users staring at error messages. The outage hit hard in the early hours. It quickly spread panic among students, developers and professionals who rely on the tool every day. Downdetector recorded more than 15,000 complaints within hours. This made it one of the biggest disruptions the AI platform has faced so far.
Users Flood Downdetector with Complaints
Reports poured in from all over the world as soon as the service started acting up. By 8:02 a.m. Pacific Time, more than 7,000 people had already flagged problems. Just 25 minutes later the number doubled and crossed the 15,000 mark. Moreover, 46 percent of users said Claude Code stopped working, while 24 percent faced issues with the main chat feature and 18 percent struggled with the mobile app. Many also complained about login failures and the website refusing to load at all. As a result, frustrated users took to social media. They shared screenshots of the errors they kept seeing.
Anthropic Quickly Confirms Outage and Rolls Out Fix
Anthropicโs own status page first showed the company was investigating the problem. Then, at 8:08 a.m. PT, it updated to say a fix was already rolling out. By 8:25 a.m. PT the company announced full recovery of the Claude API as of 8:01 a.m. PT. In its official statement, Anthropic admitted the errors. It explained that logged-in Claude Code users could still work, but new logins remained broken for a short time. The company promised to keep users updated and thanked everyone for their patience during the brief service hiccup.
The outage lasted less than an hour for most people. Yet it reminded everyone how much daily work now depends on these powerful AI tools. Developers and businesses breathed a sigh of relief once the platform came back online and returned to normal operations.
