The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to develop a modern wildlife safari park across 350 acres in Islamabad.
According to CDA authorities, the proposed project will be established in the Milpur Forestry Park area along Murree Road near Bhara Kahu.
The authority has already prepared the design for the safari park and plans to move forward with the project while preserving the surrounding environment.
Importantly, officials say natural forests within the area will remain fully protected during development. The project aims to combine wildlife conservation, recreation, and tourism within a single destination. As a result, Islamabad could gain one of its most ambitious wildlife attractions in recent years.
Natural Habitats Planned for More Than 3,600 Animals
A key feature of the proposed safari park is the creation of natural-style habitats for 3,605 animals. According to project plans, the facility will include 10 separate safari and wildlife sanctuary zones.
These designated areas will provide species-specific environments while supporting wildlife management and conservation objectives.
At the same time, the project seeks to create a visitor experience that closely resembles natural wildlife settings. Officials also intend to develop the park without harming the existing ecosystem.
Pakistanโs Largest Ungulate Safari Zone Included
The proposed development will feature Pakistanโs largest ungulate safari zone. This section of the park will cover 1,000 kanals and will accommodate a variety of hoofed animal species.
In addition, planners have proposed a dedicated big cat zone. This area will house lions, tigers, bears, and hyenas in specially designed enclosures. Separate sanctuary spaces are also planned for crocodiles, rhinos, elephants, and hippos.
These facilities aim to provide suitable environments while supporting animal welfare and visitor education.
Tourism and Recreation Facilities Part of the Project
Beyond wildlife attractions, the safari park will include a range of tourism and recreational facilities. A modern digital museum is planned to provide educational experiences for visitors.
Meanwhile, the project also includes a one-kilometre forest canopy walk that will allow visitors to explore the area from above. In addition, a two-kilometre chairlift track is proposed within the park.
The development plan further includes a fish pond, a natural lake, and a bridge walk. These features are intended to enhance the overall visitor experience while maintaining a connection with nature.
Special Attractions for Families and Children
The safari park will also offer dedicated facilities for families. A jungle-themed play area and zip line attraction are planned for children and young visitors.
Moreover, the central section of the park will feature a safari village, lodges, and recreational activity centres. These additions aim to encourage longer visits and provide a broader range of leisure opportunities.
The project also includes a food street directly connected to Murree Road. According to the plan, the area will host multiple restaurants serving visitors to the park.
Focus on Wildlife Care and Conservation
CDA also plans to establish a world-class wildlife care complex as part of the development. The facility will support animal treatment and welfare services within the park.
Additionally, international-standard veterinary and quarantine facilities are included in the proposed design. These features are expected to strengthen wildlife management capabilities while supporting conservation efforts.
Once completed, the project could significantly enhance Islamabadโs tourism landscape. Furthermore, officials believe the safari park could help position the capital as a major destination for wildlife tourism and outdoor recreation.
