Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has been named in the official entry list for the men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League, scheduled for August 21.
The competition is expected to feature one of the strongest javelin fields of the season. Consequently, Nadeem will face several of the world’s top throwers as he looks to regain momentum.
Elite Field Set for High-Profile Contest
According to the entry list released by the event organizers, Nadeem will compete against Indian rival Neeraj Chopra.
He will also face two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and newly crowned Commonwealth Games gold medalist Rumesh Pathirage of Sri Lanka.
In addition, Germany’s Thomas Röhler and Julian Weber have secured places in the lineup.
The field also includes Curtis Thompson of the United States, Jakub Vadlejch of Czechia, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, and Switzerland’s Simon Wieland.
As a result, the Lausanne Diamond League promises an intense battle among many of the sport’s biggest names.
Nadeem Looks to Respond After Commonwealth Games Setback
The upcoming event will be particularly significant for Arshad Nadeem.
He enters the Diamond League after an underwhelming outing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he was unable to defend his title.
The 29-year-old had won the previous Commonwealth Games gold medal with a remarkable throw of 90.18 metres.
However, his title defence began with a foul.
He then registered a throw of 77.41 metres on his second attempt. Although it placed him on the scoreboard, he dropped to ninth position after the round.
Nadeem needed a stronger third attempt to remain in medal contention. Instead, he managed 75.39 metres, which left him in ninth place and ended his campaign before the final stages.
Lausanne Offers Opportunity for a Strong Comeback
Despite the disappointing Commonwealth Games result, the Lausanne Diamond League presents Nadeem with an opportunity to return to top form.
The prestigious competition regularly attracts the world’s finest athletes. Therefore, a strong performance could boost his confidence for the remainder of the season.
With several Olympic and world champions competing, the event is expected to provide another major test of Nadeem’s consistency against elite international opposition.
