ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized the strategic importance of expanding halal meat exports as a key pillar for sustainable economic growth.
Speaking during a high-level meeting on export strategy, the minister revealed that Pakistan is actively working to secure international agreements that will strengthen its presence in the global halal market. He specifically highlighted ongoing negotiations with Malaysia to formalize a major export deal.
“If finalized, halal meat exports could reach $200 million over the next five years,” he stated, adding that the partnership would offer mutual economic benefits to both countries.
Tanveer also pointed to the growing potential for collaboration between Pakistan and Malaysia across several sectors—particularly agriculture, energy, IT, and trade—with halal meat being a major area of focus.
He assured that Pakistan is fully committed to meeting international quality standards, and stands ready to supply high-grade halal meat to Malaysia and other global markets.
This initiative follows momentum gained during the recent visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan, during which both nations agreed to explore a $200 million halal meat export deal. Pakistan currently holds the position of Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in South Asia.
To further solidify economic cooperation, the Pakistan-Malaysia Business Council (PMBC) and the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council (MPBC) are also in discussions to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in the halal trade sector.
The meeting was also attended by Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Prime Minister’s Advisor on Industry Haroon Akhtar Khan, both of whom expressed strong support for advancing Pakistan’s halal export footprint.
