Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has renewed the debate over Pakistan’s administrative structure, calling for smaller divisions, districts, and new provinces. He believes these changes could bring government institutions closer to citizens and improve access to essential public services.
Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, Bugti said discussions about smaller administrative units had only recently gained national attention. However, his government began working on the initiative two years ago.
The chief minister stressed that Balochistan needs an administrative structure suited to its geographical realities and public needs. He argued that smaller units could make government departments more accessible while improving service delivery across the province.
Bugti Calls for Smaller Divisions and Districts
Bugti said creating smaller administrative units could help residents access government institutions without facing unnecessary difficulties. Moreover, he stressed that administrative arrangements should reflect the specific circumstances of Balochistan.
The province’s vast territory presents distinct challenges for public administration and service delivery. Therefore, Bugti believes smaller divisions and districts could help bring government services closer to local communities.
His remarks also add to the wider national discussion about establishing new provinces in Pakistan. However, the chief minister highlighted the need to strengthen administrative arrangements alongside broader proposals for provincial restructuring.
Koh-e-Suleman Division Awaits Staff Appointments
During the press conference, Bugti confirmed that authorities had approved all divisional posts for Koh-e-Suleman Division. Officers and other staff members are expected to receive appointments soon.
The appointments would help establish the division’s administrative setup and support its operations. Furthermore, the move forms part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen administration through smaller units.
However, the effectiveness of these arrangements will depend on the deployment of staff and the delivery of public services. Residents will ultimately look for improvements in their access to government departments and facilities.
Rakhni Development Plan Targets Better Administration
Bugti also discussed plans to develop Rakhni into a model division and one of Balochistan’s leading areas for development. He said development activities had already begun in the area.
According to the chief minister, Rakhni should have received divisional status much earlier. He presented its development as an important step towards improving administration and supporting local progress.
Meanwhile, Bugti said he had issued strict instructions to prevent corruption and commission-taking in development projects across Rakhni. He emphasised that public funds must support development rather than benefit individuals involved in corrupt practices.
The Communications and Works Department is carrying out development activities directly, he added. This approach aims to improve transparency and strengthen oversight of ongoing projects.
Bugti Praises Security Forces After Gwadar Attack Foiled
The chief minister also praised security forces for foiling an attack by Fitna al-Khawarij on a construction company’s building in Gwadar. He commended the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and police for their efforts against terrorism in Balochistan.
Bugti described their performance and sacrifices as commendable. Furthermore, he acknowledged their role in operations aimed at countering militant activity across the province.
Balochistan Reports Decline in Terrorist Incidents Since August
Bugti said the decline in terrorist incidents in Balochistan since August represented a positive development. He credited security forces for conducting operations against militants.
The chief minister’s remarks highlighted security and administrative reform as important issues for the provincial government. While smaller divisions and districts aim to improve public access to government services, security operations remain central to maintaining stability.
Together, these priorities reflect the government’s focus on strengthening administration, advancing development projects, and addressing security challenges across Balochistan.
