Four More Bodies Recovered
The death toll from the Broad Peak avalanche has risen to eight after rescue teams located four more bodies.
Officials confirmed that the latest recovery brought the total number of confirmed fatalities to eight.
The four bodies were discovered on Friday morning during an ongoing search operation on the mountain.
Three of the recovered climbers were transported by helicopter to Skardu. Officials did not immediately release further details about their identities.
Two climbers remain missing. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to find them despite dangerous conditions.
Harsh Weather Challenges Rescue Teams
Rescuers are facing severe weather and difficult terrain on the 8,047-metre mountain.
Broad Peak is located in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range. The high altitude and unstable conditions have made the operation extremely challenging.
Teams are carefully searching the affected areas while facing risks from snow, ice and possible further avalanches.
Helicopters are supporting the operation where weather conditions allow. Ground teams are also working across difficult sections of the mountain.
Officials said the rescue mission would continue as long as conditions remained manageable.
Authorities Provide Logistical Support
Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Minister Neknam Karim said every possible effort was being made to locate the missing climbers.
He said the Tourism Department was providing logistical assistance to the rescue teams.
Authorities are coordinating transport, equipment and other resources required for the operation.
Broad Peak is the world’s 12th-highest mountain. It is considered one of the most demanding climbing destinations due to its altitude and dangerous conditions.
The latest tragedy has again highlighted the serious risks faced by climbers attempting high-altitude expeditions in the Karakoram range.
