Several bomb threats forced passenger aircraft to make emergency landings across Europe on Thursday, disrupting air travel in France, Bulgaria and Belgium.
The incidents triggered security operations at several airports as authorities investigated the reported threats. Meanwhile, airlines worked to ensure passenger safety and coordinate alternative travel arrangements.
An Aer Lingus flight travelling from Dublin to Rome diverted to France after receiving a bomb alert. The Airbus A320 landed safely at Evreux airport, approximately 100 kilometres west of Paris.
The aircraft carried 151 passengers and six crew members. French authorities deployed bomb disposal teams to examine the plane following its arrival.
Multiple Flights Face Security Threats
Meanwhile, Belgian media reported that a LOT Polish Airlines aircraft faced a security alert. The plane landed safely at Brussels Airport, while authorities assessed the situation.
A Finnair flight travelling from Helsinki to Rome also received a bomb threat. However, Italian Air Force aircraft escorted the passenger plane safely to its scheduled destination.
Similarly, Bulgarian officials reported three emergency landings following separate bomb alerts. Two aircraft travelling from Copenhagen and Madrid landed in Sofia, while another flight from London arrived in Plovdiv.
Authorities Investigate Latest Bomb Threats
The latest incidents followed another wave of security alerts earlier this week. On Tuesday, at least seven flights and a cruise ship received bomb threats across Europe.
Consequently, several airports activated security procedures and conducted extensive inspections. However, authorities discovered no explosive devices during those earlier investigations.
No country has officially accepted responsibility for the latest threats. Furthermore, European officials have not identified any confirmed connection between the incidents.
Meanwhile, concerns about possible coordinated disruptions continue growing across the region. Some experts believe such hoax threats could represent low-cost attempts to disrupt essential services and undermine public confidence.
Authorities continue monitoring the situation as airlines and airports maintain heightened security measures.
