Police Trace Director After 40 Days
Renowned Bollywood film producer Shakeel Noorani, known for directing Govinda-starrer Joru Ka Ghulam, was arrested by Malvani Police in sexual harassment case. Police arrested Noorani in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a 33-year-old woman. Authorities said he invited the woman to his Malvani residence to discuss a film project.
Noorani sexually assaulted the woman during the meeting. The case also includes allegations that he drugged her and later threatened her with an alleged video. Police registered a case under Sections 64(2)(M), 123, 351(2) and 88 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Court Remands Noorani in Police Custody
Following his arrest, police produced Noorani before the Borivali Holiday Court. The court remanded him to police custody until August 12.
Police said Noorani had allegedly remained on the run for around 40 days. Officers eventually traced him to a farmhouse in Maharashtra’s Satara district.
However, Noorani’s lawyer has denied the allegations against the filmmaker.
Noorani directed Joru Ka Ghulam, which released in 2000. The film starred Govinda alongside late actor Kader Khan, Twinkle Khanna and Johnny Lever.
He also directed Bade Dilwala, featuring Suniel Shetty in the lead role. The latest case has brought renewed attention to the filmmaker’s career and legal troubles.
