The bodies of three fishermen who went missing after a fishing boat capsized near Karachi’s Sea View have been recovered.
The boat was carrying five fishermen when it overturned near the Nishan-i-Pakistan monument on Monday. According to the Edhi Foundation, rescuers safely recovered two fishermen that evening, while three remained missing.
The foundation said rescue teams recovered all three missing fishermen on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Abdul Salam, 30-year-old Muna and 35-year-old Saeed, also known as Kalu.
Edhi Teams Complete Marine Rescue Operation
Edhi ambulances transported the recovered bodies to Jinnah Hospital for further procedures. The foundation’s marine rescue teams had continued searching since Monday night.
Earlier, rescuers had recovered two bodies and continued searching for the remaining fisherman. The operation concluded after teams located and recovered the third body.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said the incident occurred after the boat developed a fault while at sea. He added that authorities had also requested assistance from the Pakistan Navy and Coast Guard during the rescue operation.
Previous Boat Accidents Reported Off Karachi
The latest incident adds to several boat accidents reported along Karachi’s coastline in recent months. In May, rescue teams saved 18 people after their boat capsized near Ibrahim Hyderi.
In January, seven people were rescued while four remained missing after a merchant vessel collided with a fishing boat near Manora. During the same month, another boat carrying eight Karachi residents capsized in the open sea near Keti Bandar.
Last year, a fisherman also drowned after his boat capsized near Port Qasim. Strong winds reportedly caused the boat to overturn during the incident.
Authorities have repeatedly urged fishermen and boat operators to exercise caution at sea, particularly during adverse weather and mechanical problems.
