QUETTA: Balochistan has launched a new scholarship initiative to help talented students pursue PhD degrees at leading universities abroad, offering young scholars a pathway to international research opportunities.
The programme has been introduced under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund and will support 10 of the province’s top and most deserving students every year. These students will have the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies at renowned universities around the world.
Balochistan Opens Overseas PhD Opportunities
Speaking at the formal launch, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti described the scholarship programme as an important investment in the province’s young generation.
He said the government had started efforts to connect Balochistan’s youth with some of the world’s leading educational institutions. According to Bugti, the initiative represents a journey towards creating a brighter future for young people across the province.
Moreover, the programme aims to create new opportunities in education, research and innovation. The government expects the selected scholars to gain access to advanced academic environments while developing expertise that can contribute to Balochistan’s future development.
The chief minister also linked education with efforts to address the challenges facing the province. He stressed that terrorism and extremism could not be confronted through weapons alone.
Instead, Bugti said quality education, greater awareness and improved development opportunities were essential to addressing these challenges.
‘Books and Pens’ Instead of Arms
Bugti said the future of Balochistan belonged to young men and women who choose education and research rather than violence.
He contrasted the path of armed struggle with the opportunities created through knowledge, describing the province’s youth as the generation that should move forward with books and pens in their hands.
The government’s focus, he added, is to give Balochistan’s young people greater opportunities to participate in the global education and research community.
The overseas PhD scholarship programme therefore represents more than financial support for doctoral education. It also reflects the government’s stated effort to expand academic opportunities for talented students from the province.
Focus on Education and Research
Under the new initiative, 10 deserving students will receive the opportunity each year to pursue PhD programmes at recognised universities abroad. The programme is expected to provide selected scholars with an opportunity to develop their academic and research capabilities.
For Balochistan, the initiative places higher education and research at the centre of efforts to create opportunities for its young population. At the same time, it gives talented students a route towards pursuing advanced degrees at international institutions.
The chief minister said the broader objective was to strengthen Balochistan’s presence on the global education and research landscape.
With the launch of the overseas PhD scholarship programme, the provincial government has positioned education as a key part of its vision for the future. The initiative aims to help promising students pursue advanced research while opening new avenues for knowledge, innovation and development in Balochistan.
