A major electricity theft incident in Balochistan has disrupted power supplies to Gandawah after unidentified thieves removed electrical conductors from 24 power poles. The incident affected the 33kV Gandawah feeder, leaving the city without electricity.
According to Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) spokesperson Afzal Baloch, the theft occurred on Saturday in the Bhaag area. The suspects targeted conductors installed along the electricity distribution network, disrupting the feeder supplying Gandawah.
Although the thieves did not reportedly steal the poles themselves, the incident also damaged three pre-stressed concrete (PCC) poles. Meanwhile, QESCO has yet to determine the full extent of the damage or the financial losses.
How Did the Theft Affect Gandawah’s Electricity Supply?
The removal of conductors disrupted the 33kV feeder responsible for supplying electricity to Gandawah city. Consequently, residents and other electricity consumers in the area faced a power outage.
However, QESCO has not disclosed the exact number of affected consumers. The company also has not announced a timeline for restoring electricity to the city.
The disruption highlights the impact that damage or theft involving essential power infrastructure can have on electricity distribution. In this case, the missing conductors and damaged poles require further assessment before the company can establish the full extent of the repairs.
QESCO to Assess Infrastructure Damage and Financial Losses
QESCO plans to conduct an initial survey of the affected infrastructure and prepare a report on the incident. The assessment will help the company determine the extent of the damage and estimate the cost of replacing the stolen conductors.
Furthermore, officials will need to assess the three damaged PCC poles as part of the inspection. However, the company has not yet released a final estimate of the repair costs.
The assessment will provide a clearer picture of the financial impact on the electricity network. Meanwhile, details about the restoration schedule remain unavailable.
Who Stole the Electricity Conductors in Balochistan?
The identities of the suspects remain unknown, and the available information does not confirm any arrests. QESCO has also not reported the recovery of the stolen conductors.
The incident raises concerns about the security of electricity infrastructure in the affected area. Nevertheless, further details about the investigation, possible suspects and any action against those responsible have not been disclosed.
For now, QESCO’s immediate priorities include inspecting the damaged infrastructure and assessing the losses. The company has yet to announce when electricity supplies to Gandawah will return to normal.
