Balochistan has dismissed another 72 doctors over alleged repeated absences from their assigned duties. The provincial government says an artificial intelligence-based monitoring system is helping identify employees who fail to report for work.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti announced the latest dismissals on Saturday, bringing the total number of doctors removed from service to 200.
AI Monitoring Leads to More Dismissals
According to Bugti, the dismissed doctors repeatedly remained absent from their assigned workplaces. He said the government had introduced an AI-based system to monitor attendance and improve accountability across public departments.
“This brings the total number of doctors dismissed from service so far to 200,” he said.
The chief minister also disclosed financial penalties against employees found violating attendance and disciplinary rules. “An amount of Rs410 million has also been deducted from the salaries of doctors and paramedics for remaining absent and violating discipline.”
Thousands of Government Employees Face Scrutiny
The action extends beyond doctors, as the provincial government has also started examining attendance records across other departments.
Bugti said authorities had sought explanations from 11,000 government employees over alleged absenteeism. Meanwhile, departmental proceedings were underway against another 800 employees.
These measures indicate a wider effort to address attendance violations within the provincial government. However, the announced figures cover employees across different departments, not just the healthcare sector.
Government Warns Against Unauthorised Absence
Bugti stressed that government employees must fulfil their responsibilities and provide services to the public honestly. He also warned that authorities would not tolerate employees collecting salaries without performing their duties.
“The government will not allow any employee to draw salaries while sitting at home and absence will not be tolerated,” the CM categorically.
The latest dismissals form part of the provincial government’s broader action against alleged absenteeism and workplace indiscipline. Furthermore, the use of AI-based monitoring has become a central part of the government’s stated approach to identifying attendance violations.
