ISLAMABAD: Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the entry of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals on motorways during Eid-ul-Adha to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow across the country.
According to the spokesperson for the Central Region, overloaded and mechanically unfit vehicles carrying animals pose a major risk of accidents on motorways. Consequently, officials will redirect such vehicles to alternative and safer routes during the Eid period.
The spokesperson stated that several serious accidents involving vehicles transporting sacrificial animals occurred in previous years, prompting authorities to introduce stricter preventive measures this year. Officials believe the decision will significantly reduce road accidents and improve traffic management during the busy festive season.
In addition, authorities have directed Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to establish check posts at motorway entry points to ensure effective implementation of the ban. Police personnel will monitor incoming traffic and prevent unauthorized animal-carrying vehicles from entering motorways.
Authorities also warned that they would take strict action against illegal parking near cattle markets and motorway interchanges. Furthermore, officials confirmed that legal proceedings would be initiated against drivers and transporters violating traffic laws, safety regulations, and prescribed loading standards.
Traffic authorities urged transporters and citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and use designated routes to avoid inconvenience and ensure safer travel during Eid-ul-Adha.
Meanwhile, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow to observe the Dhu al-Hijjah moon. According to astronomical experts, there is a strong possibility of moon sighting, making Eid-ul-Adha likely to fall on May 27.
Officials said security and traffic management plans would remain in place throughout the Eid holidays to facilitate travellers and maintain order on major highways and interchanges nationwide.
