Two suspects allegedly linked to the rape and murder of five-year-old Aun Abbas were killed during a police encounter in Muridke, Sheikhupura district, on Wednesday. The development comes as investigators continue pursuing those suspected of involvement in the child’s death.
According to police, the encounter took place in Muridke tehsil after four suspected robbers allegedly opened fire on a police mobile along 34 Chak Road. The suspects reportedly began firing after spotting the police vehicle, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
Two Suspects Killed, Two Escape
During the exchange, two suspects died, while the remaining two reportedly escaped. Police identified the deceased suspects as Asif and his friend Muneeb.
Investigators said their findings in the Aun Abbas case allegedly connected both men to the child’s sexual assault and murder. However, the allegations remain subject to the legal process.
Police also claimed that the suspects lived in the same neighbourhood as Aun Abbas. According to their account, the suspects killed the child before disposing of his body in a village pond.
Aun Abbas was the only brother among five sisters, making the tragedy particularly devastating for his family.
Weapons Recovered as Police Continue Search
Following the encounter, police said they recovered weapons from the deceased suspects. Authorities subsequently shifted their bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital for legal formalities.
Meanwhile, police have launched a search operation to locate and arrest the two suspects who fled the scene. Their whereabouts remain unknown, according to officials.
The investigation into Aun Abbas’s death continues alongside efforts to establish the alleged roles of those involved.
Earlier CCD Encounter in Rawalpindi Case
The Muridke incident follows another alleged encounter involving a suspect accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his 15-year-old niece in Rawalpindi.
On October 13, police said Crime Control Department personnel killed Mumrez Abbasi, an Abbottabad resident, during an exchange of gunfire near Alamabad Stop. The location falls near Children’s Park, within Ratta Amral Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Police said two alleged accomplices escaped during that incident, prompting a search operation. Authorities also reported recovering a .30-bore pistol and ammunition from the deceased suspect.
According to investigators, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled his niece. The girl had reportedly left home to attend a madrassa when he allegedly took her to his residence.
Police said he allegedly assaulted and killed her there, while authorities later recovered her body from the residence.
The two cases have drawn attention to serious crimes against children and ongoing police investigations. In the Aun Abbas case, authorities are still searching for the two fleeing suspects.
