Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has launched a fresh attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing its leadership of failing to condemn terrorism and allegedly facilitating militants. During a press conference on Saturday, he also questioned the party’s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and rejected its strategy of seeking Imran Khan’s release through protests.
Tarar appeared alongside PML-N leaders Ikhtiar Wali Khan and Jalal Khan, where he levelled serious allegations against PTI. However, these remarks represented the minister’s political claims rather than independently established findings.
Atta Tarar Accuses PTI of Supporting TTP Ideology
During the press conference, Tarar alleged that PTI leaders and workers followed the ideology of the Taliban. He also accused the party of failing to condemn terrorist attacks and claimed that its members had facilitated terrorists.
“As a matter of fact, PTI is a ‘B team’ of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP),” the minister alleged.
Tarar’s remarks intensified the political confrontation between the ruling coalition and PTI. His accusations focused on the party’s alleged links to militant ideology and its response to terrorism.
The minister also directly challenged PTI’s protest strategy, saying the party could not secure the release of its founder, former prime minister Imran Khan, through a long march or demonstrations.
Tarar Criticises PTI’s Governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Beyond the security allegations, Tarar criticised PTI’s performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the party had taken the province “back to the stone age.” He argued that residents continued to face poverty and lacked access to basic facilities.
“There is poverty in the province as people are deprived of even basic facilities of life.”
According to Tarar, these conditions had increased public demand for change and development across KP. He questioned why the provincial government had not established information technology parks along the route from Swabi to Lakki Marwat.
The minister also contrasted the province’s current situation with its earlier reputation for peace. He argued that PTI’s governance had failed to maintain the progress residents expected.
“But look, what the PTI has done to it now,” he lamented.
Minister Highlights Development in Other Provinces
Tarar also pointed to development in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, saying progress across these provinces was visible. He contrasted their development efforts with his criticism of PTI’s administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Furthermore, the minister praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to improve the country’s economic and social conditions. He said the prime minister continued working to promote national progress and prosperity.
“The prime minister announced subsidy for the deserving people.”
Tarar presented the subsidy announcement as part of the government’s efforts to support deserving citizens. However, he did not provide further details about the programme during the remarks outlined at the press conference.
Ikhtiar Wali Khan Accuses PTI of Failing KP
PML-N leader Ikhtiar Wali Khan also criticised PTI’s political record in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He accused the party of misleading residents by promising a revolution without delivering meaningful improvements.
“The party gave nothing to the people of the province, except destruction,” he added.
His remarks echoed Tarar’s criticism of PTI’s governance and development priorities. Both leaders questioned whether the party had fulfilled its promises to the people of KP.
The press conference highlighted the continuing political tensions between PML-N and PTI, particularly over security, provincial governance and Imran Khan’s release. Tarar’s allegations and criticism of PTI’s record formed the central themes of the briefing.
