ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China are working to establish training programs in artificial intelligence and data sciences for Pakistani students at leading Chinese institutions, aiming to enhance Pakistan’s digital capabilities.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad.
Strengthening Digital Cooperation
Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with China to accelerate digital transformation and create new economic opportunities in the ICT sector. Discussions focused on leveraging China’s expertise in AI and data sciences to build Pakistan’s technological workforce.
The Chinese side reiterated its support for Pakistan’s digital development efforts, emphasizing collaboration in digital governance and cybersecurity.
Cabinet Approves Cybersecurity MoU with China
In a related development, the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cybersecurity cooperation between Pakistan and China. The agreement will strengthen ties between Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team and China’s National Computer Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center.
Additionally, the cabinet was briefed on price monitoring during Ramazan, with Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal highlighting efforts to regulate essential commodities. The Directorate of Religious Education was also approved as an affiliated department under the Ministry of Federal Education.
These initiatives reflect Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to advancing digital collaboration with China while addressing key economic and governance challenges.
