The AI revolution is making waves in the hair care industry, with AI-powered shampooing machines rapidly gaining traction in salons across China—particularly in Guangzhou Province.
These cutting-edge machines offer a fully automated hair-washing experience, capable of completing a wash and rinse cycle in just 13 minutes. Equipped with infrared sensors, the machines analyze each user’s scalp to customize the shampooing process according to individual hair types.
They come with multiple settings, including speed wash, normal, extended wash, and water-only rinse options, along with three levels of scalp massage intensity. The machines are also designed to accommodate both short and long hairstyles, adding to their versatility.
Initially priced at 9.9 yuan (approximately $1.35) to attract early users, the cost of an AI shampoo session has now doubled to 19 yuan (about $2.60) due to rising popularity.
Despite the convenience and novelty, feedback has been mixed. Some users have complained about overly aggressive scalp massages, while others criticized the machines for not thoroughly cleaning the back of the head. One Weibo user wrote, “I tried it and it’s useless—my scalp hurts,” while another commented, “It just sprays bubbles and rinses water. It doesn’t clean the back of my head properly. I still had to wash it myself.”
Still, the AI hair-washing machines offer a unique and budget-friendly alternative to traditional shampoo services. Whether they become a mainstay in salons or require further refinement, their presence is already creating a buzz in China’s evolving hair care market.
