OpenAI is expanding access to ChatGPT by removing text conversation limits for Free and Go users. The change could allow millions of people to use the platform more freely.
According to the company, Free and Go users will receive unlimited text chats with GPT-5.6 Luna starting next week. The update will remove message caps that previously limited extended conversations. However, other ChatGPT features will still have usage restrictions. These include file uploads, image generation and some advanced tools.
GPT-5.6 Luna Becomes Default Model
OpenAI also plans to make GPT-5.6 Luna the default model for Free and Go users. The company expects to begin rolling out the model this week.
The new default experience aims to provide more capable and responsive answers. Meanwhile, free users will also receive access to a new “Think” button.
The feature allows ChatGPT to spend additional time working through complex questions. As a result, users could receive more detailed analytical responses when tackling difficult topics.
OpenAI will continue applying safeguards to prevent misuse of the feature.
Paid Users Receive New AI Features
The update also brings improvements for Plus and Pro subscribers. These users will receive an upgraded version of GPT-5.6 Sol.
OpenAI says the model offers improved factual accuracy and more concise responses. It also handles questions involving dates, figures, rules and cited sources more effectively.
Furthermore, subscribers will gain a new “thought” slider. This tool will let users control how deeply ChatGPT reasons before producing an answer.
