Apple is reportedly preparing a major MacBook Pro redesign that could introduce the company’s first touchscreen Mac. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the new models could arrive as early as October, although the launch may move to November.
The redesigned laptops are expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch versions. They could also feature OLED displays with touchscreen support.
Apple Prepares Major Display Upgrade
The move to OLED would mark a significant change for the MacBook Pro lineup. Apple currently uses mini-LED displays on its high-end MacBook Pro models.
OLED technology can deliver deeper blacks and stronger contrast. It can also produce more vibrant images because individual pixels can turn off completely.
However, the touchscreen could prove even more significant. Apple has reportedly been working on changes to macOS that would make touch controls easier to use on a Mac.
New MacBook Pro Could Be Lighter
Apple may also redesign the laptop’s internal structure.
According to Gurman, the company has reworked the internal layout and reduced the size of some components. As a result, the new MacBook Pro could become significantly lighter than current models.
The exact weight remains unclear. Likewise, Apple has not confirmed whether the thinner design will affect ports or battery capacity.
M6 Chip Details Remain Unclear
The new MacBook Pro lineup has also sparked speculation about its processor.
Earlier reports linked the redesigned laptops to Apple’s M6 chip family. However, newer reporting suggests Apple could take a different approach with the high-end models.
Current reports indicate that the upcoming touchscreen versions may use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead. Meanwhile, Apple could reserve the M6 chip for a separate 14-inch MacBook Pro model.
Therefore, the final chip lineup remains uncertain until Apple makes an official announcement.
OLED iPad Mini Also Reportedly Coming
The MacBook Pro may not be the only Apple device receiving an OLED upgrade.
Apple is also reportedly preparing an OLED version of the iPad mini. The tablet is expected to retain its 8.3-inch display size, with no major external redesign currently expected.
Together, these products could mark another major step in Apple’s wider shift toward OLED displays.
Apple’s Next MacBook Pro Could Change the Mac Experience
Apple has avoided adding touchscreens to its Mac computers for years. The reported redesign would therefore represent a major change in the company’s laptop strategy.
If Apple launches the touchscreen MacBook Pro later this year, users could see a combination of OLED technology, touch controls and a lighter design for the first time.
For now, however, Apple has not officially confirmed the launch date or specifications. The company’s reported October-November window remains the clearest indication of when the new MacBook Pro could arrive.
