Amazon has unveiled a new lineup of Alexa tablets featuring full Google Play Store access, marking a major shift from its long-running Fire tablet strategy. The new devices run on Android and integrate Alexa+, the company’s artificial intelligence assistant, to deliver a broader range of applications and smarter features.
The lineup includes the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8. Unlike previous Fire tablets, which relied on Amazon’s own app store, the new models allow users to download popular applications such as YouTube, Gmail, and Netflix directly from Google Play.
New Tablets Bring Better Hardware And Performance
The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features a 12-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor. Amazon claims the device delivers three times faster CPU performance and nine times faster GPU performance than the Fire Max 11.
The premium model offers up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Additionally, buyers can choose an optional Nanomatte display designed to reduce glare and improve visibility in different lighting conditions.
Meanwhile, the Alexa Tablet 11 features an 11-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the compact Alexa Tablet 8 comes with an 8.7-inch screen. These models offer more affordable options for users seeking tablets for everyday entertainment and browsing.
Alexa+ Adds Artificial Intelligence Features
All three tablets include Alexa+, Amazon’s upgraded AI assistant, which supports natural conversations and hands-free interactions. Furthermore, an optional On-Screen Intelligence feature allows Alexa+ to analyse displayed content when users enable the setting.
Amazon has also introduced dedicated Kids Tablets with parental controls, child-friendly content, and access to Google Play. The devices include protective cases and a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription.
Pricing And Availability
The Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $230, while the Alexa Tablet 11 begins at $330. The flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $500, with higher configurations costing more.
Amazon plans to begin shipping the new tablets in the United States on October 14, followed by selected European markets on October 19.
