A mysterious chicken disappearance in India ended with an unexpected discovery after a giant python was found inside a village coop. The incident occurred in Thottakkam village in Kerala’s Malappuram district, where several chickens had gone missing from a shed.
Python Found After Chickens Attack
The huge snake was discovered when a resident, Seethalavi, went to feed his chickens. He found three birds badly injured, while another chicken had already died. One more bird was still struggling after an apparent snake attack.
The python had swallowed one of the chickens before hiding in a corner of the shed.
The family quickly contacted wildlife rescuers after discovering the snake inside the enclosure.
Snake Regurgitates Swallowed Chicken
When rescuers approached the python, the snake regurgitated the chicken it had swallowed.
The team then safely captured the python and handed it over to the local forest range office.
The unusual incident left residents concerned about the presence of snakes near homes and livestock areas.
Residents Warned to Protect Livestock
Pythons and other snakes can sometimes enter settlements near forested areas while searching for food. Wildlife rescuers and forest officials have advised residents to strengthen chicken coops and other livestock enclosures.
They also urged people to seek professional help instead of approaching or attempting to capture large snakes themselves.
The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by communities living close to wildlife habitats.
