Pakistan has offered Kazakhstan access to its three major seaports to improve regional connectivity and promote maritime trade with Central Asia. The initiative aims to create new transit opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
The proposal would allow Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries to use Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar Port as important transit hubs. Through these ports, Central Asian states can gain better access to markets across the Persian Gulf, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
The development highlights Pakistan’s efforts to expand its role as a regional trade gateway. Moreover, improved maritime links could support greater movement of goods and encourage stronger economic partnerships.
Pakistan and Kazakhstan Discuss Maritime Cooperation
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin. Both officials reviewed opportunities to expand bilateral trade and enhance cooperation in shipping and logistics.
During the meeting, the maritime minister highlighted Pakistan’s interest in developing joint ventures in coastal free zones. These partnerships could help maximize the economic potential of the country’s ports and improve trade facilitation.
“Pakistani seaports can act as transit hubs for Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region, offering access to markets in the Persian Gulf, Africa, and Southeast Asia,” Chaudhry said.
