Rangers’ Deployment
MIANWALI: On Wednesday, the government approved the extension of Rangers’ deployment in Mianwali for an additional three months, according to sources.
The federal cabinet reportedly endorsed the Interior Ministry’s summary through circulation. The decision to extend the deployment was made in response to a request from the Punjab government to maintain law and order in Mianwali.
Sources indicate that the extended deployment will be effective from February 22, 2024, to May 19, 2024. The move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring security and stability in the region, responding to the specific needs articulated by the provincial authorities.
Notably, last year, the Islamabad district administration also opted to extend the deployment of Rangers in the federal capital for six months.
The administration had sought additional Ranger personnel as a Quick Response Force (QRF) to enhance security measures in Islamabad.
The decision to deploy Rangers across Punjab and Pakistan Army troops in Balochistan was previously approved by the federal cabinet in May 2023.
This deployment was sanctioned through a circular summary, and the extension of Rangers’ presence in Mianwali aligns with the government’s broader strategy to bolster security forces in various regions for law enforcement and peacekeeping purposes.
As part of the National Action Plan, the deployment of Rangers and Pakistan Army troops under 7 ATA (Anti-Terrorism Act) reflects ongoing efforts to address security challenges and maintain stability in different provinces of Pakistan.
