LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: With the aid of Safe City cameras, Lahore police apprehended a taxi driver on charges of allegedly harassing a university-bound girl during her journey.
The distressed girl reached out to emergency services (15) when the incident unfolded around Raiwind.
Upon receiving the call, the police swiftly responded and arrested the driver in the vicinity of Nawab Town, ensuring the safe rescue of the girl.
The spokesperson for Safe City credited the quick response to the precise location identification facilitated by their surveillance cameras.
An investigation into the matter was initiated by the police, utilizing footage from the cameras. The videos depicted the girl leaving the moving vehicle and forcefully closing its door, prompting the authorities to delve deeper into the incident.
In light of such occurrences, the police recommended that females install the Punjab police’s Women’s Safety App, equipped with live chat and emergency services (15), offering a prompt response for rescue situations.
According to a Punjab police spokesperson, the application has already assisted 300,000 women in ensuring their safety.
