Kuwait government announces over 1,000 jobs openings

Kuwait Municipality has announced over 1,000 job openings for both citizens and expatriates in various sectors, as per Arab Times. The annual budget report for 2024 reveals a total of 1,090 positions available.

Notably, 36 roles in the funeral department, involving tasks such as the ritual washing of the deceased, are specifically designated for foreign workers, along with 25 driver positions for hearses. The municipality is also seeking candidates for roles such as accountants, architects, electrical and mechanical engineers, though it remains unclear if these positions are open to foreign applicants.

Administrative positions within the municipality are exclusively reserved for Kuwaiti nationals across different branches. The new budget, estimated at KD190 million for wages and compensation, marks a significant increase of KD9 million compared to the current budget. Foreign workers make up 23% of the total public sector workforce, totaling approximately 483,200, representing the highest proportion among Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Reports indicate that the overall workforce in the country, combining government and private sectors, is 1.9 million, with 75% employed in the private sector. Expatriates account for around 3.2 million of Kuwait’s 4.6 million population.
