Lahore High Court Rejects PTI President Parvez Elahi’s Plea

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi challenging the rejection of his nomination papers. However, his wife Qaisara has been granted permission to participate in the upcoming general elections from two constituencies.

A three-member bench, led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, issued the verdict on the appeals filed by Parvez Elahi and his wife, contesting the decisions of the appellate tribunal and returning officer (RO). The court upheld the decisions of the RO and appellate tribunal regarding the rejection of Parvez Elahi’s nomination papers from NA-64 and PP-32.

Furthermore, the LHC full bench also turned down Moonis Elahi’s appeal against the rejection of his nominations from NA-64, NA-69, PP-32, and PP-34. Nevertheless, Qaisara’s nomination papers from NA-64 and PP-32 have been accepted for the upcoming general elections.

Earlier on January 8, an election tribunal had rejected appeals by Parvez Elahi and his wife against the rejection of their nomination papers from NA-59 and PP-23, upholding the RO’s decision to declare them “disqualified” for not disclosing asset details and other information.

Several objections were raised against them, including allegations of concealing assets, not disclosing shares in various companies, Qaisara’s foreign visit, failure to open separate bank accounts for expenditures in both constituencies, technical errors in documents, and submitting documents without verification from the oath commission.

Parvez Elahi, a senior PTI leader, had been initially arrested on June 1 in a Rs70 million graft case related to the misappropriation of development funds allocated for the Gujrat district. He has remained in custody since then, facing multiple arrests in different cases, including money laundering charges and allegations of illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly.
