Historic Coins
SUKKUR: During conservation efforts at Moenjo Daro, a stupa yielded a pot brimming with copper coins in an excavation on Thursday. Laborers, engaged in the restoration work, discovered the pot amid the excavation of a collapsed wall.
Syed Shakir Shah, Director of Conservation and Preservation, confirmed the recovery of numerous historic coins carefully packed in the pot. The coins have been subsequently sent to a laboratory for in-depth analysis. The analysis aims to determine the age of the coins and interpret the language and numbers engraved on them.
Shakir Shah shared that laborers initially unearthed the pot of coins during the excavation but chose to rebury it. Subsequently, some workers notified officials from the Archives Department, who proceeded to retrieve the coins.
While some archaeologists speculate that the coins may be centuries old, Shakir Shah emphasized the need for certainty, stating that only laboratory analysis could confirm the exact time period and provide other relevant details. The discovery of these ancient coins adds another layer of historical significance to the ongoing conservation efforts at Moenjo Daro.

ISLAMABAD: The Global Fund has requested diplomatic status in return for rescinding the Additional Safeguard Policy (ASP), enabling Pakistan to access a $281.5 million grant for combating AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
Caretaker Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan disclosed, “We have written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to grant privileges and immunities or diplomatic status to the Global Fund after they sought this status in exchange for revoking the Additional Safeguard Policy. Cancellation of the policy would allow us to utilize Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM).”
