ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau(NAB) has brought forward its report on the inquiry into PTI leader Moonis Elahi regarding a case of receiving kickbacks and engaging in corruption while awarding government contracts.
Simultaneously, the investigation targets Moonis’s father and PTI President, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.
According to the report on Moonis’s inquiry, investigators have uncovered his involvement in corruption and money laundering. He allegedly received kickbacks by utilizing his frontman Azmat Hayat and secretary Sohail Asghar as intermediaries for the contract transactions.
The report highlights a substantial increase in Moonis’s assets coinciding with his father Parvez Elahi’s assumption of the Punjab chief minister’s role.
Moreover, the report outlines that Moonis allegedly received kickbacks through Azmat Hayat and Sohail Asghar, channeling substantial sums of domestic and foreign currency into his bank accounts since July 2022. Following that date, he also purchased over 384 kanals of agricultural land for Rs72 million.
The report indicates that kickbacks and bribes might have financed this land acquisition, implying that Moonis Elahi allegedly exploited his father’s role as chief minister for personal benefit.
The report further alleges that Moonis secured bribes by influencing the contract allocation process in favor of his preferred contractors in Gujrat.
In light of the findings, Moonis Elahi has been implicated in corrupt activities, including money laundering.
The NAB previously held former chief minister Parvez Elahi in custody as part of the investigation into kickbacks received from government contracts, and he remains a part of the investigation.
