Highlights double standards when it comes to foreigners and locals
ISLAMABAD: Expressing solidarity with his teammate Hassan Ali, all-rounder Shadab Khan effectively responded to a critic who harbored disapproval towards the fast bowler for embracing his ‘desi’ identity.
Shadab Khan recently uploaded photos titled, “Modelling skills better? Learning from my teammates.” Notably, besides his fans, his stylish photos also earned him a shout-out from one of his teammates.
“Mai sadqy jaon wari jaon apny yaar pa, Maa Sha Allah nazar na lag jaye [figuratively, it can be defined as ’I am ready to sacrifice myself for your well-being, May Allah protect you from evil eye],” Hassan Ali reposted the collection with comments.
However, the utilization of a ‘desi’ expression by an international cricketer left a fan, if not multiple, feeling frustrated.
Shadab displayed clear dissatisfaction with the comment and voiced his displeasure. He pointed out the hypocrisy in people’s criticism of Hassan Ali for expressing his true self while being accepting of other foreign players doing the same.
Shadab Khan replied to the fan, “It’s fine if foreign players say the same in English. However, we should avoid being natural [ourselves]. We should develop a fake personality.”
He went on by adding , “I don’t feel any shame in my culture or poking fun in it.”
Concluding his statement, the cricketer extended a blessing to everyone, entreating Almighty Allah to bestow upon them happiness and guide them towards finding joy in the happiness of others.
