Pakistani Climber Appeals for Airlift from Everest to Kathmandu

Asad Ali Memon, a Pakistani climber who is stranded on Mount Everest, has reached out to Pakistan’s embassy in Nepal to request that they set up an airlift to Kathmandu.

On Friday, Mr. Memon successfully scaled the highest mountain in the world, but on the way down, he injured his hand.

Mr. Memon claims that when coming from Mount Everest, he slipped between Camps 4 and 3, hitting an ice screw and dislocating his hand as a result. He said that it took him three days to get back from the peak to base camp, which typically takes one or two days.

Mr. Memon persisted in the descent despite the dislocated hand, finishing it with one hand on Monday and arriving at base camp where he received medical care. Due to his injury, he stated that the only way for him to get to Kathmandu was via air service from the base camp, which is dependent on good weather.

In addition to his injury, the 24-year-old climber, who is a student at a private university in Karachi, achieved the distinction of being the first person from Sindh to successfully scale Mount Everest.
