Former federal minister and senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Aamer Mehmood Kiani, announced on Wednesday that he was leaving Imran Khan’s leadership.
Following the former prime minister’s arrest, the party committed vandalism and damaged military facilities.
Later today, Kiani, who is also PTI’s additional secretary, will hold a press conference.
Kiani stated: “I am not only leaving PTI but also quitting politics.”
The former health minister is the second PTI leader to depart the party after Mahmood Baqi Maulvi.

Kiani, a notable figure who served as the PTI leader’s dependable aide and who won the NA-16 seat in 2018 on a PTI ticket, has made the decision to sever ties. He was also the North Punjab branch of PTI’s president.

Mahmood Baqi Maulvi
Mahmood Baqi Maulvi, a Karachi-based Member of the National Assembly (MNA) elected on a PTI platform, announced his resignation from the party just one day before Kiani made his statement.
His choice was made when riots broke out across the country as a result of Imran Khan, the party leader, being detained at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 9.
Imran Khan’s Arrest
In response to warrants issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the rangers arrested Khan.
Following that, PTI supporters wreaked widespread havoc across the nation and attacked military posts.
Maulvi made an announcement of quitting PTI on Tuesday in a press Conference.
“We can change political parties but we cannot change our army. I have never gone against the army nor will I do it in the future,” he stated.
Furthermore, Kiani disclosed that party members had been debating before May 9 how they would march to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi if Imran Khan were to be detained.
“I told them we should not fight against the army because there is no reason for it.”
Maulvi made it clear that he had no connection with the people taking part in the violent protests and that he was not responsible for their behavior, emphasizing that their behavior during the riots was “indefensible.”
He stressed once more that it was never ethical to engage in battle with the army.
The Government decided to hold those responsible for vandalism accountable and has promised not to ignore any of the perpetrators.
