PMD Issues Heatwave Warning for Upcoming Months

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning that the country will likely see higher-than-normal temperatures during the next few months.

The Met Office expects the heat to be more extreme than usual this month through May due to below-average rainfall.

The country received 77% less rain in February, resulting in an average day and night temperatures that were 3 to 5 degrees Celsius higher than typical.

Throughout the 30 years preceding 2022, the average March temperature rose to 26°C, with a small increase in 2017.

Nonetheless, there is a potential that the heat may worsen this time.

The forecast predicted that the temperature would be higher than usual not just in March, but also in April and May.

Today’s weather as per PMD

Today’s weather is expected to be mostly dry over much of the country, with scorching temperatures in the plains.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was 40°C in Mithi, while the lowest temperature was 16.6°C in Lahore.

The remaining few days of March are expected to be wet across the country.

However, the second and last Ashra of Ramadan is expected to be scorching.

Yet, the PMD indicated last week that rain is expected to begin at the start of Ramadan.
