Pakistan female hockey player among victims of Italy boat accident:
Shahida Raza, a 27-year-old woman and member of the Pakistan Women’s Hockey Team, drowned in a boat wreck accident while attempting to reach Europe for a better future.
In sports circles, she was known as Chintoo and played departmental hockey for Pakistan Railways.
Raza was an exceptional football player and represented Balochistan United in women’s football.
She was on board a boat from Turkey to Italy with hopes for a better future when the boat crashed into a sea cliff while anchored in the Crotone region, resulting in the death of more than 200 migrants, including approximately 40 Pakistanis, most of whom hailed from Gujrat.
Despite being a mother to an infant girl, her daughter was not with her at the time of the accident. The Hazara community in Quetta is grieving her loss.

Brigadier (retd) Khalid Khokhar, the President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Syed Haider Hussain, the Secretary-General, and PHF Women Wing members Syeda Shehla Raza and Tanzila Amir Cheema, among others, expressed their sorrow over Raza’s tragic death.
The accident caused the Hazara community to express deep grief and anger.

The incident has once again brought to light the risks that migrants face while attempting to reach Europe in pursuit of a better life. Migrants frequently take perilous journeys, risking their lives in overcrowded and unseaworthy boats, with aspirations of a brighter future.
