LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court today suspended the order of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wherein the Commission denotified 70 PTI MNAs.
A single-member bench of the court headed by Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition of PTI today.
The single-bench issued the notices to the ECP and Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf, asking them to submit their responses by March 7.
The PTI MNAs had challenged their denotification in the Lahore High Court.
Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf accepted the resignation of 34 PTI lawmakers on January 17 and 35 MNAs on January 20.
He accepted resignations of Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasheed and the ECP denotified them.
Consequently, Riaz Fatyana and 42 other MNAs filed a petition in the Lahore High Court and challenged the decisions of the NA speaker and the ECP.
NA Speaker accepted resignations of PTI MNAs when the party announced to sit in the Parliament to give a tough time to the coalition government.
