12 suspects in Nankana Sahib lynching case arrested:

Police arrested 12 people on Sunday in connection with the lynching of an accused blasphemer in Nankana Sahib, a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident.

According to a Punjab police statement:

After the inquiry into the horrific occurrence began, the culprits were identified using the camera.

On Saturday:

A horde of hundreds stole a man from the Warburton Police Station,

where he was being imprisoned for blasphemy, and tortured him to death.

Station House Officer (SHO) Warburton Feroze Bhatti and other police personnel left the scene to save their lives as the crowd lynched the guy, who had been imprisoned for alleged blasphemy.

Locals accused the guy, who had served two years in jail, of practising witchcraft by putting images of his ex-wife on sacred papers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz voiced worry over the occurrence on Saturday, declaring that:

“action would be done against police personnel who failed in their duty” in reaction to recordings that appeared to show a man being beaten to death by a crowd over suspected blasphemy.

The Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Usman Anwar, suspended two senior police officers after seeing their failure to stop the unruly crowd from torturing the man over blasphemy claims.

According to a police statement:

Dr. Usman Anwar has suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Waraq and Warburton SHO.

In Addition:

The IGP further directed that the Special Branch DIG Raja Faisal and the Internal Accountability Branch DIG Syed Muhammad Amin Bukhari visit the location of the incident and submit an investigation report.

Moreover,

Individuals responsible for the incident will face stern departmental and legal action, according to the IGP.
